What is a double opt-in?

know-how from A-Z

The double opt-in procedure is used, for example, when registering for a newsletter: a user first enters their email address in a mailing list (single opt-in). They then receive an email to confirm their registration (double opt-in). After this confirmation, the user is added to the mailing list.

The aim is to protect the user from spam and to ensure that personal data has not been used by third parties. It is also intended to provide legal certainty for commercial emails, as the unsolicited sending of such emails is not permitted.

Although the double opt-in procedure is not yet mandatory, the use of this procedure makes a company's marketing appear more reputable.
