What is geotagging?

know-how from A-Z

Geotagging is the enrichment of a file with geographical coordinates. As a rule, these are photos that are assigned location data, making them findable in connection with specific locations.

These so-called geo tags are often used in social networks. Geo tags play a crucial role for local SEO in particular, as they make local companies easier to find in location-based searches in search engines.

Professional photographers also use geo-data, which can either be added at the time of creation or afterwards. Other examples include Google Maps and Google Earth, but geotagging is also used in disaster control, transportation and spatial and environmental planning.
