What is a double opt-out?

know-how from A-Z

Similar to double opt-in, double opt-out is a two-stage process in the field of email marketing. In the double opt-out process, a newsletter is first unsubscribed from in the browser. The user then receives an email with a link to confirm the unsubscription. This unsubscribe link is usually located at the bottom of the newsletter.

With the double opt-out, it is precisely determined whether the customer only wants to unsubscribe from the newsletter or whether they want to have their email address completely removed from the mailing list.

The double opt-out procedure is intended to prevent a newsletter subscription from being canceled by mistake. In addition, this extra step lengthens the unsubscribe process, which means that fewer users unsubscribe overall.
