What are mobile devices?

Know-how from A-Z

Mobile end devices, also known as mobile devices, are electronic devices that are used for various forms of communication. Due to their small size and low weight, they can be taken anywhere and are location-independent.

In addition to network-independent voice and data communication, they also have other functions. They can be used for data storage, image communication and navigation. In addition to being location-independent, accessibility and localization, i.e. determining the location via Wi-Fi or GPS, for example, play a role in the classification of mobile devices.

The general public primarily understands mobile devices to be smartphones.

These combine several functions of mobile devices, such as voice communication and image communication. Thanks to ever newer innovations, smartphones now include many of the functions and programs of desktop computers. Desktop computers must be distinguished from mobile devices. Other devices to be distinguished are (video) cameras or laptops.

Examples of other mobile devices include cell phones, tablets, e-book readers, netbooks, notebooks, hybrid PCs and various other devices.

Mobile devices are playing an increasingly important role in online marketing. On the one hand, the UX and UI design of websites must be adapted for such devices with different screen sizes to ensure that all content can be found and is easy to consume. On the other hand, the mobile first approach is an SEO ranking factor, meaning that content must also be increasingly adapted for mobile devices. This means, for example, that texts should not be too long or videos should have subtitles so that they can be played without sound in public.
