Yandex became known in 1997 as the Russian Internet search engine of the Russian-Dutch company of the same name and is still the market leader on the Russian Internet today. Yandex is now available in both Russian and English.
Over the years, Yandex has become a multi-portal with over 30 additional services. Similar to Google, Bing or Baidu, the most popular services include photos, news and a map service. Users can also use email inboxes, online translators, blog services and much more. In contrast to Google, however, Yandex's business is primarily focused on Russia and neighboring countries and is therefore less international.
There are some special features to note compared to other search engines, particularly in the areas of SEO and SEA. For example, backlinks play a comparatively minor role, whereas the correct use of the Russian language, both in sentence structure and word forms, are decisive ranking factors.
