What is the First Meaningful Paint?

know-how from A-Z

The First Meaningful Paint (FMP), together with the First Contentful Paint (FCP), is an important KPI for measuring page speed and describes the time at which the most important components of a website are displayed in the browser.

The FMP represents the third phase of a page load process, after the First Paint and the First Contentful Paint.

The page content, consisting of images, videos, fonts, HTML source code and JavaScript files, is loaded up to a certain point. By viewing the page, the user has the impression that the page is fully loaded. The user takes in information from the website while the website finishes loading in the background.
