What is DuckDuckGo?

know-how from A-Z

DuckDuckGo (DDG) is a free search engine on the Internet and advertises excellent data protection and privacy for users, as no personal information is collected or passed on by users and trackers are blocked. This means that all users are shown the same results instead of the most searched results.

DDG states that it does not store IP addresses, does not log information about visitors and only uses strictly necessary cookies. It automatically blocks tracking services such as Google or Facebook Tracker and is therefore similar to other privacy tools such as NoScript or Ghostery. The "!Bang" syntax also makes it possible to search for results in selected websites using specific keywords.

Extensions have also been developed for the Safari, Firefox and Chrome browsers so that DDG can be installed as a browser plugin in other browsers. It is also possible to install apps for iOS and Android devices from DuckDuckGo.

As the search results displayed are obtained from different sources, such as Google, Bing, Yandex or Wikipedia, DuckDuckGo is also referred to as a hybrid search engine.
